Following customer demand, we have recently introduced a lacquered brushed satin brass finish to our Classic, Shropshire and Luxe Hardware collections and Ironbridge shelf brackets. Our key reason for doing so, is due to lacquered brass not oxidising over time. Here's our low down on key benefits, the differences and how to clean this finish!

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LACQUERED AND UNLACQUERED BRASS

comparison lacquered and unlacquered brushed satin brass

LACQUERED

Protective Coating - A strong lacquer is applied which prevents tarnishing, this maintains the handles appearance and therefore requires no maintenance

Maintenance - Over several years of use, lacquer can chip or peel if damaged which will cause the exposed metal to oxidise, it is therefore more suited for internal applications.

Uses - Customers who desire a clean and newer look to their home opt for this finish, it is very versatile and suited to both modern and traditional homes alike.

Ideal for use in a kitchen or bathroom where a lot of water is used as the lacquer provides a protective shield.

UNLACQUERED

A Natural Patina - Each piece will age individually developing a unique natural patina that will change over time.
Maintenance - If the original polished, the handle will require polishing with brasso to restore the shine again. If brushed and marks are showing from patination, the handle should be brushed with very fine wire wool or the rough side of a kitchen sponge.
Uses - Customers choose this finish when a natural patina is preferred, popular in period properties where customers want to add character and charm.

We recommend wiping any marks with a warm damp cloth and drying immediately with a dry clean cloth. Never use any chemicals as it will damage the lacquer.
